Dr. Nic Van Rensburg – Head, Ledwba Law Chambers
Dr. Nic Van Rensburg is the Head of Ledwaba Law Chambers. He also serves the Ledwaba Corporation Proprietary) Limited’s board in a capacity of legal advisor and attorney. This is complemented by his vast experience in matters of law and policy development. After completion of his school career, he attended the university of OFS of where he obtained his BA (LAW) and teachers diploma. He was a Latin master at Windhoek High school, Afrikaans Hoer Seunskool and Grey College. In 1966 he completed his LLB degree and joined the firm of Mahlerbe,Saayman and Vermaak. After completion of his articles, he became a partner with attorneys Rooth and Wessels at the Vanderbiljpark branch. He mainly attended to litigation, companies’ contracts, wills and estates and sequestration.
In 1982 he joined the atomic energy corporation as the legal advisor and eventually became the Chief Legal Advisor. His work mainly involved commercial work, especially contract both locally and with overseas firms. Due to his interest in administrative law he enrolled at the University of Pretoria for his doctorate in the licensing of nuclear materials and activities. He is the first in South Africa and one of a very few people internationally who obtained an LLD in this field.
During 1991 he joined the new Post Office Company to start a legal division for the Post Office and was also the Chief Legal advisor. Legal work was mainly in the commercial field as well as regular training sessions on contracts and applicable statutory law. He is also the author of Postal Services in LAWSA,volume 21.He attended a large number of legal seminars over the years both as refreshers and developing topics in the legal field, apart from always either advising persons on their wills and estates or drafting wills or administering estates. For the past two and half years he is practicing as an attorney again and ha become involved in the liquidation of large investment firms and structuring new business enterprise
